The YSR Congress president and Kadapa MP, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, on Thursday slammed the ruling Congress for targeting him and his late father Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy after the latter's death.
In an interview to Headlines Today, Jagan said he would come out stronger after the CBI probe. He accused the Congress and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) of joining hands against him.
"It is only a witch hunt. It has nothing to do with proving anything. Chandrababu Naidu as chief minister for nine years granted ports and followed procedure. If dad followed the same procedure, how can he be guilty and not Naidu," he asked.
On the apprehension of his arrest by the CBI, Jagan said, "I don't think it will go that far. But in case it goes that far, let God be the judge."
"State and Centre is headed by Congress. They are people in power and I am in opposition. Why should it go to the extent of getting somebody arrested? In what position are we to influence somebody," he asked.
On the future of YSR Congress, Jagan said, "We will emerge stronger (after the case against him ends). Everyone in the state will say it is a witch hunt. Whatever they do, it will translate to us going stronger and stronger."
The young MP denied any chance of going back to the Congress before or even after the next elections, scheduled in 2014.
To a question on his party's political alliances in the wake of 2014 polls, Jagan said, "Let's not get into this now. Let God so bless us with numbers then we will decide."
