Congress MP K Chiranjeevi’s outburst against the party leadership for ignoring the erstwhile Praja Rajyam Party leaders and cadres which led to the defeat of the Congress in the recent by-elections evoked strong reactions within the party.
Senior Congress leader and former minister J C Diwakar Reddy said the Congress party had won the Ramachandrapuram and Narsapuram seats not just because of Chiranjeevi but because of various other factors. “He was just one among the many who had worked hard for the party’s victory,” he said.
Another Rayalaseema leader and minister T G Venkatesh said Chiranjeevi might have made the comments because he was new to the Congress party.
“He needs some time to adjust to the Congress culture. Though the PRP has merged with the Congress, its leaders and cadres have to bear with the Congress culture,” he said.
Senior leader and MLC Paladugu Venkat Rao said Chiranjeevi’s comments had hurt the Congress party workers.
“Individuals never matter in the Congress party. It is the principles and policies of the party that play an important role. The megastar has to mend his behaviour,” he advised.
